Welcome to St. John’s Lutheran Church
Rev. Dr. Mark Scott

This Thursday, September 15th is the first day here at St. John’s for Pastor Scott.  As previously noted, Pastor Scott will begin his service to St. John’s as our Interim Pastor.  He will be employed on a half-time basis with current plans to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Pastor Scott’s first Sunday leading our worship services will be this Sunday, September 18th.  Please make plans to attend one of the regular services and welcome Pastor Scott and his wife Karen into the St. John’s family.  As an initial introduction, Pastor Scott shares the following message:

This coming Sunday is my first Sunday as your Interim Pastor. Having served a number of congregations in the Southeastern and South Carolina Synod, Bishop Aebischer has appointed me to serve during this time of transition time here at St. John’s.  My wife Karen and I recently celebrated our 48th Wedding anniversary and we have just returned from a European river cruise to celebrate that event. Our daughter, Anna, and her family reside in Murrells Inlet, and we recently moved there to be near them and to help her and her husband, John to provide them help in the midst of busy times in their lives. We also regularly visit our two daughters Elise and Monica, who live in Seattle and we give thanks for the Alaska Air flights that enable our visits.
We look forward to knowing you and the congregation and to the events of ministry in Charleston. Having served as Interim Pastor at Holy Spirit a few years ago, we are familiar with the Charleston area. In nearly 47 years of ministry, many things have occurred that continue to shape our lives and the ministry we share. Over the years, what I have learned is that each day of ministry offers unique opportunities for sharing the Gospel no matter what happened in the past.
Further, no matter what happens, we will grow in faith together!
